Bourke Street Bakery.

Two things:
1. I’ve had their book on my Amazon wishlist for ages, I am so psyched to get it now.
2. David Lebovitz was SO right in saying this place can compete with patisseries in Paris.

Let me explain.
Bourke Street Bakery has an array of pastries and bread.
Introduced in 2004, the bakers and pastry chefs Paul Allam and David Guinness created a place where it is possible to get artisanal bakery products made with good quality ingredients for reasonable prices.
They sport a viennoiserie with English influences – apart from croissants and a truly lovely pain au chocolat, they have danishes, muffins, tarts and cakes.
I tried the falky pain au chocolat – could have had more chocolate in it, but otherwise suberb.
The carrot cake I tried was moist and flavorful, sporting walnuts and raisins, unfortunately the cream cheese frosting was a tad bland.
All in all, good though.
And then the ginger brulee tarte.
Oh, my goodness.
Beautiful flaky pate sucree crust, baked golden brown, very tasty.
That crunchy crust paired with the ginger crème filling – SO good.
The top flamed sugar crust broke easily giving away to the truly creamy filling.
It melted in your mouth with just enough ginger flavor to be refreshing.
This one’s a keeper.

I also tried their pork sausage roll, it was very good and the filling was nicely spiced.
Although I must admit it’s not my favorite thing in the world anyway.

If you’re ever around Sydney, give this place a try.
And if you have some extra money invest in one of their books.

Zwei Sachen vorweg:
